Should I be active in a church?
Of course you should! We believe that everyone who loves God should be in an active relationship in which they are being taught and formed by the Word of God as well as living in community with the people of God. If the church is special to Jesus, it would be odd for us to say that we love Him but not have His desire and love of His church! While the church is often not what it should be, we must remember that the church is made up of imperfect people like ourselves. That doesn’t free us from our obligation to be together as the church – rather, it helps us see how much we need His Word and His people!
Most churches call this active relationship “church membership”. Membership implies activity. This means that you’re on the “team”. As we seek to make a difference in the world, your membership at FTBC means that we can count on you as we plan ministry. What specifically do we “count” on you for? There are a few things:
That you will live in fellowship with us by regularly giving of your time and your resources to our ministry vision, and living daily for the Lord. This is how we EXALT God!
That you will live in fellowship with us by regularly attending a small group and social engagements. This is how we ENJOY God and His people!
That you will seek to grow in your trust and understanding of God by making use of our classes and educational opportunities. This is how we are EQUIPPED for growth in God!
That you will consider becoming a ministry resource…teacher, program director/minister, choir member, or anything that God’s puts within your heart. This is how we EXTEND God’s Kingdom!
How do I join FTBC?
On any Sunday, you are free to walk to the front of the sanctuary to talk with the Pastor during the response time of our morning worship. That is the predominant way people have joined our church. We do want to be sensitive to folks who may be intimidated by this process – so we outlined an alternative process below.
If you are interested in joining our team and becoming a member of our church, the first step is to meet the Pastor or a Deacon. They are readily available following our Sunday morning worship services or by appointment throughout the week. You can usually find them around the front of the sanctuary after the morning worship service or at the Pastor’s office just to the left once inside the main doors before service. You can become familiar with the staff and Deacons under the “Staff” selection on this web site. They want to make sure that you have a clear grasp of the Gospel and that you have taken the first step of Christian proclamation – baptism, and have surrendered your heart to Christ.
Membership Affirmation
Once someone has completed these steps (met with a pastor and proclaimed Jesus as their Lord), the Pastors will present you to the church at the conclusion of one of our worship services so that your membership can be affirmed and encouraged by the congregation.
